"By believing in his dreams, a man turns them into reality"
- Hergé, Belgian writer

The Radio Club Leuven welcomes back the four members of the Mali 2007 DXpedition who went on an adventure not unlike Tintin's.
They showed us that the spiritual father of Tintin had it right.

Welcome back guys.

Logs online !

Sat, 7 Apr 2007 10:36:03 UTC by Stefaan Burger

During todays power failure we took the time to put the logs online.

However, the logs for the digital modes are not included, nor the first hours of operation of TZ4T. Logs need to be merged with main log and we will do that later.

Another update

Sat, 7 Apr 2007 10:18:15 UTC by Stefaan Burger

Yesterday we spent some time to erect a 6m antenna and hope to make some qso's on this band too.

We also activated digital modes (BPSK and RTTY)

We do not receive anything on 160m so we do not spend any more time on it. Too bad!

Today we will do more digital modes.

While I am writing this, we have another power failure. We have them several times a day :-(

Exciting news !!!

Thu, 5 Apr 2007 22:18:44 UTC by Stefaan Burger

Yesterday, Bart fulfilled all local requirements and obtained his license  !

He will use the call TZ3T.

Furthermore he is the only one, and probably the only TZ-amateur, with a 6m license!

We have a 6m vertical and he will try to listen occasionally on 6m.

Today we had nice pile ups on 14, 12 and 10m. This morning we also made some qso's on 40 and 80m. The signals that we receive on the low bands from EU are very very weak.

Tomorrow morning we will be active on 160, 80 and 80m around 0500 utc. With our experience of the past day we have little hope to make much qso's on 160m. Let's hope that we are wrong.

Update

Wed, 4 Apr 2007 09:40:29 UTC by Stefaan Burger

Despite the fact that , in general, signals from EU are weak, we have had nice pile-ups on 20, 17 and 15m.

We spend our second night on the low bands. Only 40m seems to work reasonable at sunrise here. Few qso's on 80m (only south of europe) and none on 160m (yet).

Last night we had a power failure and had to stop operations for half the night.

Let's hope that tonight will be better on the low bands...

Night 1

Tue, 3 Apr 2007 08:37:53 UTC by Stefaan Burger

The first night passed, we are now more than 12 hours on the air.

The only band that showed good propagation was 20m. On the low bands, signals where very weak last night. This morning we heard a lot of EU stations on 40 and 80m but no reply on our calls. We switched back to 20m, CW, where propagation to EU started around 0500 UTC.

Let's hope that propagation improves

Setup is finished !!!

Mon, 2 Apr 2007 17:43:42 UTC by Stefaan Burger

By now we finished installing the antennas.

We already did some short tests on 20m and enjoyed the pile-up.

Tonight we will be active on 20m and the low bands. Cu there!

Setting up (update 17:15 UTC)

Mon, 2 Apr 2007 09:45:01 UTC by Webmaster

Update 17:15 UTC

The equipment is ready.

The setup was delayed because of the high temperatures.

The team has confirmed they will be making QSO's on the low bands this evening.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The hometeam received a message from de DXpedition stating that they are busy setting up all the equipement. With temperatures already reaching 36°C this may take a few hours.

Keep listening.

3...2...1...Departure (updated 20:39 UTC)

Sun, 1 Apr 2007 10:55:22 UTC by Webmaster

Update 20:39 UTC

Flight AF796 has landed at Bamako Airport.

----------------------------------------------------------

Update 15:00 UTC

Air France flight AF796 has departed Charles de Gaulle airport. The team is now on it's way to Bamako

----------------------------------------------------------

At 12:15 local time the team boarded the high-speed-train that will take them to Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, France. There they will take an Air France flight to Bamako, Mali.

The team is in great spirits and were joking and trying to pull April-fools-pranks on eachother. They looked like a group of schoolchildren going on a fieldtrip.

The home-team wishes them a good trip and a great DXpedition.
